Michele Fletcher is a Canadian-born painter based in London. For more than two decades, she has developed a process led practice in which oil paintings are made wet-into-wet during a single sustained sitting. Working without preparatory drawings or source imagery, Fletcher develops invented vegetal forms from memory, bodily sensation and the behaviour of paint. Petal, stem and seed like structures appear and dissolve, holding the work between botanical recognition and abstraction. The compressed duration of making is a material constraint. Decisions can be revised while the surface remains open but cannot be deferred to another session. Recent solo exhibitions include Fooling Linnaeus (Project Space), Nicelle Beauchene Gallery, New York (2026); Time Left Green, T&Y Projects, Tokyo (2025); Aftertime, Inside the White Cube, White Cube Hong Kong (2025); and Between a Flutter and a Fold, Tiger Gallery, London (2023). Fletcher was a prize winner in the 2020 John Moores Painting Prize. Selected collections include the Isaac Newton Institute, University of Cambridge; University of the Arts London; and EY. She received a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and Critical Theory from Goldsmiths, University of London, and an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art and Design.
